Starwood was formed in the year 2000 by merging all Sheraton and Westin resorts under one name. With such merger, Vistana resort, which is operated and managed by Sheraton, became part of this transaction.
Starwood did not follow the example of the most notorious names in the timeshare industry to transition into the point system, it is a weekly driven product.
Just like Marriott Vacation Club, the Starwood loyalty program, Star Options, does not transfer in the resale market, therefore, owners purchasing in such market, are not eligible to convert their week in order to stay in Starwood hotels around the world.
