One of the most iconic golf events in recent years is the Waste Management Open in Scottsdale, Arizona. Now know as “ The People’s Open” it is a golf event like no other. The 2026 dates will be February 2nd thru the 8th at the TPC Scottsdale Golf course. Over the past several years, this tournament has earned the reputation of being one of the most entertaining of all the PGA events. In a sport that can historically be known as being “stuffy”, the WMO is anything but!
On Monday and Tuesday, no tickets are required as they are all free thanks to Ford Free days. For the rest of the tournament, children under 15 years of age get free admission, BUT for any credentialed areas, children over 3 years of age must have a ticket.
Famous for its 16th hole, which is reminiscent of a gladiatorial arena, there is an energy there that cannot be matched on any other PGA tour venue. The stadium encircles the Par 3, like a spider embraces flies in its web. The golfers must endure the raucous crowd noise as they navigate the seemingly short hole. One of the most entertaining days is the “college day” on Thursday as the golfers usually have their gear representing their alma mater and the crowded are usually decked out in kind. Golfers will usually have shirts, hats and other memorabilia to toss to the awaiting fans on College Day, just adding to the party atmosphere.
As the tournament continues, Friday, Saturday and Sunday settle, somewhat, into regular PGA routine. And fans can enjoy the beauty of the green golf course, among the contrasting beiges of the desert. The PGA Village, and many, many sponsored grandstands throughout the course make this an amazing event for all ages.
