The new luxury timeshare resort will include hundreds of new residences, a casino, beach property, and more.
Meliá Hotels International has begun building a new, $3.5 billion dollar resort compound in the Bahamas. The beautiful property will extend over 1,000 acres, including a lengthy tract of pristine white-sand beach.
The development process will consist of converting the current Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort, which will stay open and be referred to as the “Melia Nassau Beach Resort” during the project’s interim which is estimated to extend from December, 2013 to December, 2014. At the conclusion of the project, the club will be renamed “Melia at Baha Mar.”
Plans for the new Meliá development will include five new properties that each feature both hotel rooms and private residences. The first property will be the above-mentioned Melia at Baha Mar. Additionally, the Baha Mar Casino and Hotel property, Rosewood at Baha Mar, Mondrian at Baha Mar, and Grand Hyatt at Baha Mar will be added.
The Meliá Nassau Beach Resort will sport 694 rooms and a number of spaces for meetings and conventions. The first-class, all-inclusive resort will be complete with fresh restaurant concepts, fabulous pools, and an attractive lobby area.
The Rosewood at Baha Mar is another major part of the project. A 200-room luxury hotel, the building includes 87 private residences and villas. Rosewood at Baha Mar will also feature the intimate Sense, A Rosewood Spa®.
Thirdly, Hyatt Hotels and Resorts will operate and manage a 700-room convention hotel. The Grand Hyatt at Baha Mar will offer a plethora of upscale rooms, including 85 private residences, blending dramatic architecture and design with Bahamian culture and contemporary luxury.
At the center of the resort will be The Baha Mar Casino & Hotel. The 100,000 square foot gaming space will boast 1,500 slots and 150 table games. Steps away, the destination spa, ESPA at Baha Mar, will offer 30,000 square feet of divine relaxation, showcasing extensive views of Baha Mar’s pristine white-sand beach and its warm turquoise waters. For those looking to unwind with a leisurely day on the green, the resort will also provide an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course.
Baha Mar’s Chairman, Sarkis Izmirlian said, “Meliá brings a wonderful, upscale name with global recognition and exceptional values to our brand portfolio at Baha Mar. Baha Mar will be proud to offer Meliá’s all-inclusive resort experience, which is a leader in one of the fastest-growing segments in vacation travel.”
